If so, what is the procedure?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As far as the clear coat goes: The manufacturer does not recommend it. That being said, everybody does it. We have been telling body shops for years not to clear coat over stripes and graphics &#8211; hardly ever though is there a problem (when they do mess up &#8211; the clear coat &#8220;pops&#8221; off the vinyl). Most body shops never have a problem.<\/p>\n<p>But again it is not recommended. The lettering will expand and contract at a different rate than the surface&#8230; ever so slightly. Enough though, it could cause the clear top coat to &#8216;pop&#8217; off in unusual ways. But really, though, a top coat is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.signspecialist.com\/lettering\/lettering_information.php\">not needed for durability<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Have another question about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.signspecialist.com\/decals\/decals.html\">decals<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.signspecialist.com\/signs\/signs.html\">signs<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.signspecialist.com\/lettering\/lettering.html\">lettering<\/a>,<br \/>\nor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.signspecialist.com\/stripes\/fastnfurious\/fastnfurious.htm\">stripes<\/a>?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Although the manufacturer does not recommend clear coating over decals or graphics, many body shops do so without major issues. The primary risk is that the vinyl expands and contracts at a different rate than the clear coat, which can occasionally cause the clear coat to peel or pop off.
